2009 WillieBuild Takes On Double Challenge

2 Corinthians 9:6 – 8
“The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.”

It’s difficult to appreciate ‘abundance’ in tough economic times. It’s hard to feel ‘abundant’ when your IRA is down 30%, and when companies and industries that were all but unsinkable are now taking on water. No matter who you are, times like these challenge your ability to live abundantly.

Last May, the friends and family of Willie Tichenor remembered how difficult it was to think and feel abundance when Willie was sick. We remembered how Willie gave so freely of his time and energy, when he had so little time and energy left. The truth is that Willie was willing and able to give of those things of which he had a limited supply because he had received the love of God in perfect abundance. Willie would pray or laugh with or visit or counsel whomever needed to know God’s love right then and there, even though it tired him out and made his leg and his lungs hurt and required of him another moment that he would never get back.

To celebrate Willie’s choice to live abundantly during his short life, we built TWO houses in 2009, a time of great need.  That means we got to meet, work alongside and become friends with TWO families instead of one.  We hope that you will come and work with us in 2010, in Willie’s memory, and in recognition of the abundance of God’s love.

The Cortes and Vasquez homes were built at 1811 and 1815 Shaw St. in conjunction with Highland Park United Methodist Church Carpenters for Christ Ministry and Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity. For more information CLICK HERE.

A Thank You from the Family:

I want to Thank Dallas Area Habitat for making homeownership possible for me. I thought that owning my own home would never happen. My son, Henri, and I thank you whole heartedly for this great opportunity you are giving us.

The Vasquez Family: Lizeth (14), Lizbeth (14), Alex (17), Maria, and Joselin (15)

A Thank You from the Family:

You can’t imagine how happy I am. Thank you Habitat for making my dream come true. I would also like to thank the sponsor that made this possible. Without their help, homeownership would have been impossible for my family. I appreciate all that has been done for me and my family. We are forever grateful to you all.
